Brilliant day out at Richmond Championship show where Bonvivant Zippydeedoodah aka Caper got his first CC Best Puppy, and Best of Breed! Cruz Reserve CC and Ann with Deepha 1st Open Bitch and Bitch CC. Ruger qualified for Crufts, Sam 1st Limit dog and Chante 3rd OB.
In Laekenois, Bonvivant Ave a Go at Okami with owner Tracey, was BP Best Dog and Best of Breed!
Caper loved the big ring in the Group and strode proudly round.
Sunday Ann and I went down to a local Funday show, taking the puppies for a looksee, they watched from the van and were very well behaved.
News from Chris Paris Brown that Ceren (gron pup) is coming on wonderfully and has a lovely character.
In Ireland, Olive with Ralph, won the Grade 4-6 Jumping class.
Good weekend and now looking forward to Gerry and Steve coming to stay next weekend to see Raffa, their Groenendael puppy.

It was the Malinois puppies first day out today in the sunshine, totally unphased they watched the other dogs and played with Tiger. They were all weighed using my new toy--hanging scales and didn't bat an eyelid being suspended in the shopping bag but were not too impressed with the wormer!

Their characters are beginning to come out now and they are a very cheeky bunch.

I can now tell you of the good outcome of one of the Groenendael puppies. Maximouse Minimoose was exactly the same size as the other pups when she was born but, at just over 2 weeks old, she stopped growing. Psyche didn't really want much to do with her and I suspected that something was seriously wrong. Dwarfism is not a problem that we have in Belgians and she was eating, drinking and behaving just like the others. I made Psyche feed her on her own but still she didn't grow. By 6weeks the other pups wanted to treat her as a toy and so she was separated to a pen by the others, so she wouldn't lose contact with her siblings but could not be bullied. I bottle fed her and put her on Psyche on her own too. I had just about given up that she would probably die as there must be something seriously wrong. Despite her lack of stature she was a real little fighter and ate everything she was offered. What a little character she was becoming too. She had what appeared to be entropian in both eyes and could not see out of her left eye at all--things did not look good. Her coat was very odd and she had bald patches appearing. She was by now a quarter of the size of the other pups and weighed just over a kilo. We had 2 healers giving her daily healing which I am sure kept her going.

When we had out Belgian funday I had booked Christine East, the McTimony chiropractor,to come and treat a few dogs. I had told her about Min and she offered to massage her and see if it would help. Min was a livewire but enjoyed her massage--Christine told me that Mins neck was very tight and that she had adjusted one side of her face which was out of alignment.

Min slept most of the next 2 days and I resigned myself to the fact that she probably was fading away---on the 3rd day I woke up to find her looking straight at me and she was as bright as a button! Since then she has been growing daily and now is about 3/4 of the size of her brothers, her dead coat fell out and a new glossy coat grew and bald patches disappeared.. At last she can play with her mother, and demands attention by bouncing up and down barking. I have put some photos of her on here to show you the difference in the last 4 weeks. Of course she is thoroughly spoilt and eats anything from bananas, fish and chips to beef and pineapple!!!! as well as her usual puppy food.

It just goes to show the wonders of healing and massage--we have had some brilliant results before when Brizo trapped a nerve in her back and had displaced some vertebrae-now back to normal---thanks to Christine, Garth and Lesley who have such wonderful gifts.

Another week gone by starting with our trip to see Noel Fitzpatrick. Sad news that Cudos has an extra spur of bone in his jaw which,aggravated by his collision with Coppa, has caused major problems. There is an operation but it may or may not be successful and would cost many thousands. The advise is to wait and see if he will cope as he grows. He is still on painkillers so is leading a normal life but, sadly, won't be in the show ring, however he can continue his obedience training which he loves. Off to the chiro on Wednesday to see if she can alleviate some of the pain. I would recommend Fitzpatricks to anyone wanting a referral--we were there for 2 hours and he took loads of x-rays to find the problem. Fantastic state of the art set up and such caring people .

Sunshine at last so have spent all Bank Holiday outside with the dogs. Leslie brought her Grandchildren to see the puppies and they had a great time. Still got 3 Groenendael pups and the Tervueren puppy available--they love retrieving the balls and are such lovely outgoing pups.

Chamonixs Malinois puppies are growing so fast and becoming regular Houdinis.

I had a nice time between the showers photographing Bronte and Harry the Beardie pups and then found some heavily laden bushes of wild plums and Bullaces--just got to find the time to make some jam now.

WKC this saturday and it was a long drive although the weather did stay dry.

Congratulations to a new Champion, Belsharose Nebraska, who got his 3rd CC under Debbie Fleming.( A Cliche son out of Bonvivant Ombrage). RDCC was Revloch Yabba Dabba Doo (Cliche x Ch Revloch O'Baoil). BCC was Ch Revloch O'Baoil and RBCC Bonvivant Coup de Foudre avec Zodantta CSAU,TAN, SCh of Merit. BP was Caper (B. Zippydeedoodah). Cruz won Open Dog, Chic 1st PGB, Lexi 2nd LB.

In Laekenois BB with BOB was Ghiana d'Eroudur and RBB and BP Bonvivant Aziva.BD Haramis d'Eroudur.

It was lovely to see Brima in the ring with Coppa and Ziva her sisters.
In Tervueren B.Ma Cerise at Brackenmeer was VHC in OB.

Today Gill and Simon visited with Ruger(pic top) and we had a lovely day in the sunshine and Simon brought a yummy Lancashire Hotpot for lunch. Mia(terv) arrived for a few days holiday and spent an hour racing round with Caper and Cudos. Tomorrow Remy and Maisie arrive for a couple of days.

On Tuesday Cudos and I are taking a trip to Surrey for a consultation at Fitzpatricks, as he has had a nasty collision with Coppa a few weeks ago, and he has displaced his jaw. He is finding it hard to eat and I am hoping that something can be done to help him. At the moment he is on soft food and painkillers although it doesn't stop him playing rough with Caper!

Today was the first time I had taken Cruz to an obedience competition to compete, not just a training round. I had drawn first in Beginners and had decided to use this for training before going into Pre-Beginners for real.

It must have been me, as Cruz was on another planet, and we were just not working together. I had had such high hopes today and was quite despondent. We went and did our Beginner stays and he was clear. So onto Pre-Beginners. He was a totally different dog and, although I knew we could have done better, with a couple of exuberent crooked sits, he was with me and listening. Only stays to go and yet again he was clear. I must admit I had watched a couple of other rounds and thought them very good so thought we might get in the placings--I daren't look at the score board so we sat outside the ring and waited for presentations.

I was so surprised when we were called in first!--we had won on our first attempt and received a rosette and a lovely glass photo frame with his award on it! I was so proud of him and it took a while for it to sink in. My trainer, Audrey, was at the side of the ring clapping and I was so pleased that we had not let her down, as it is down to her training that we have come so far in the last year. Thanks Audrey, and also to everyone who congratulated us ringside, and have given me such a lot of encouragement.

So now we can concentrate on Beginners, and Caper and Cudos will have to start off a class higher. Such a lot of work to concentrate on over the winter with the 3 boys and hopefully it is onwards and upwards.

I cannot believe it is so long since I last blogged, I know so many people have been waiting for the pictures of Psyches' pups, who are now almost 9 weeks old! So now, at last, I have put together some photos of what we have been up to. Loads more pics to put on here but this is a taster.

Psyche had 10 lovely puppies, 7 dogs and 3 bitches, one of which was a tervueren male. They came 6 days early, which was a bit of a shock, but all were well grown and ready.

I qualified both bitch puppy Laekenois at Windsor but, as many of you know, missed my Malinois classes. Apologies to Judge Frank Kane.

Before I knew it the Club show was upon us and Caper was BP Malinois,Cruz RCC dog, Ziva BP bitch Laekenois and her brother Rodney, BPDog. Antar was RBDog Laekenois.
This year we thought we would do something a bit different for our Belgian Fun Day and we had a Teepee with Tarot readings and healing. Everyone joined in putting the Teepee up and even Caper was pulling on the ropes to tighten the canvas.

We also had a canine chiropractor, Fun agility, puppy socialisation and a BBQ, manned by Martin, and Curry (kindly cooked by our curry king Chris).
The weather was against us and many people couldn't make it, but those who came enjoyed themselves. We had a few showers but on the whole it was nice in between.

Gerry and Steve were with us for the week and Gerry was choosing her new puppy. After a thorough going over she chose Raphael (Raffa for short) and they spent a happy time together. Raffa went off exploring and went through the scary bottle hoops and along the ladder on the ground with no problems. After racing round the field with his sister Min he decided to crash a out by Gerry and finish off a well earned cup of tea (Belgians having the perfect cup shaped noses).

Billy the Westie pup, Totty the collie and Bronte the Beardie pups all had a good day socialising and trying out the equipment. Barney the Beardie had his first try at agility and was brilliant, with a bit of assistance from Frieda he was soon going through the tunnel too. Kate enjoyed her day with Megan and Heidi, and Brian the Labrador had a check over from the chiropractor.

We ended the evening with a Shamanic drumming session in the Teepee, accompanied with by Cudos. Thank you Leslie and Di for a wonderful experience.
Chamonix was due to whelp on the Monday but decided to wait until after the Fun Day, so not a lot of sleep that night. She had 6 male puppies and is a very good mum as she was last time.

We ended the week with a Birthday lunch for my Mum with some friends. Back to the normal chaos now so hopefully I will keep up the blog more regularly.

Obedience training with Cruz, Caper and Cudos is coming on well and they really do enjoy it. WKC in a couple of weeks, then Richmond (the last ones with CCs ) and maybe a couple more and that is about all we shall be doing show wise this year. It is becoming so expensive now with entries and the rising costs of fuel we shall be looking forward to more obedience shows and maybe some open shows up at Newark.

Congratulations to all Bonvivant dogs, and relations who have done so well in Agility, Obedience and the show ring this year so far. The future looks exciting with 2 Groenendael puppies(Ceren and Uli) having gone to Chris Paris Brown and Jude Owen, respectively,for Obedience.

Bath Championship show last weekend with fantastic results.

Deepha was awarded her 3rd CC and is now a Champion! (subject to KC confirmation). Well Done Ann and Deepha I am very proud of you both.

Caper was Best Puppy and RDCC and the dog CC went to Belsharose Nebraska who is by Ch.Bonvivant des iles Fidji x Bonvivant Ombrage.

RBCC was Goldmali Could it be Magic who is by Ch. Bonvivant Esprit x Goldmali Believe.

Sorry for the big gap in my blog but I have just not had the heart to communicate lately. So much has happened in the last few weeks so I must catch up now.

Bunny had a pyometria and we thought that we would lose her, but she recovered well after her emergency operation and is now back to full strength.

Gerry and Steve came down for a few days which was lovely. The week after Bunnys' op of course, we lost Cougar, and then Margy and I went to Slovakia judging at the Belgian Speciality. We had a lovely weekend (see next blog) and managed to get a flight home in time to go to Birmingham National where Cruz had the RDCC, Dana (B.Sorciere) the RBCC. DCC was Theas' new Import Casykas Ituha and the BCC and BOB, Ch.Revloch O'Baoill. BP was Revloch Yabba Dabba Doo. Congratulations everyone.

Steve came for a few days, on his own this time, and just chilled out, being head chicken keeper and Kennel man. :) thanks Steve.

In between I have been training with Caper,Cruz, Cello and Cudos, and lead training the remaining Laekenois pups. I still have a couple of bitches looking for active homes.

Psyche is decidedly in whelp to Becanbrie Rohan at Linvetts, and will do well to get to her due date on the 16th of June!

Here are some photos from the Belgian Club show in Slovakia where myself and Margy were judging. The weather was wonderful, the venue was in a wooded area with lovely cabins and on site restaurant. The food and company was great and we were made so welcome by Nora and the comittee.

The BIS winner was Grimmendans Honey (T) and RBIS was Toby Comme un Reve Noir (G).

BOB Malinois was Daring Devil du Crepuscule des Loups.

BOB Laekenois was Hikka de la Tyvell.

BVeteran was Eleanor Z Kovarny.

We spent a day in Bratislava which had some beautiful old buildings. The weather was hot and we spent a lovely day eating out on the street restaurants, pottering around the art shops and taking photos.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the passing of Cougar (Ch.Bonvivant Esprit). We suspect he had a blood clot and I found him peacefully lying in his bed on Tuesday evening. He had spent his day playing in the sunshine with his ball, sleeping in the office on his chair and keeping an eye on Cudos the puppy. When the other pups left home he took it upon himself to look after Cudos and slept on his chair so the pup knew he wasn't alone.

Cougar made history, being the first Malinois male Champion in the UK, gaining his crown under the late Terry Thorn. He represented the Malinois many times in the Group ring, was lead dog for the Bonvivant Breeders Team, the last time this year at Crufts where he had taken the RDCC the day before. Cougar loved to show and just couldn't wait to get in the van. Always a gentleman, loved and admired by so many both here and abroad. Sire to many lovely puppies and was the only Malinois to be used here in the UK for the Mal/Laekenois mating, passing on his character and qualities.

Cougar was Top Sire 2009 in Malinois and Laekenois. He represented the Breed at the Contest of Champions, Discover Dogs and was a wonderful Ambassador for the Breed.

Above all, Cougar was my soul mate, always there when I needed a shoulder to cry on.....

Bali arrived in Norway--very lucky that we changed the date from the 15th to the 14th or the eruption of the volcano in Iceland would have cancelled her flight. I think I can safely say that Bali was pleased to meet her new owners, Linda and Kathrine, and she spent her first couple of days with Linda and Ronny. She took her Tigger with her and looks so relaxed in the car on her long journey from Stavanger to Bergen, with 2 ferry crossings. What a big day that was for her. I think she will be very happy in Norway.

Her brother, Cudos, is on his own now and has moved into the house with us. He hasn't stopped using his voice for the last 2 days, but he croaks a bit now. He has been travelling around with the dogs in the van and spent a lovely afternoon up at Carols' yesterday--running in and out of the container as if he did it every day. He went to visit my friends at the kennels this morning and joined their dogs in the kitchen while we had a cuppa. He was quite surprised to meet dogs which weren't Belgians but soon made himself at home pulling a net of lemons out of their veg rack.

Another beautiful warm, sunny day and Barbara and I went for a walk with the dogs. Hard to believe that Ziggy the Collie is almost 11yrs old now, the same age as Bunny (Gwashleas Rigmarole at Bonvivant) pictured at the bottom here.

Chatter and Cruz went on a photo shoot up the field and posed on the straw bale--taking five and rolling around on top of the bale--almost falling off! Then they played hide and seek round the bale before going home for a cool drink.

A really nice week with Claire and Gaston visiting from Belgium. The Malinois puppies had their first outing in the sunshine with mum, Chiraze, and had a great time. Bali is off to Norway on Wednesday this week to Kennel Nadjarah where she will be showing and doing agility with Linda and Kathrine. Biper and Chiraze returned with Claire and Gaston to Belgium on Friday just leaving the 2 pups here.

My Mum has been recruited to train Caper on his retrieve and he is very good with her and is careful not to bounce all over her.

It was cold on Saturday when I went to Newark, having volunteered to do stay stewarding and scent decoy, met lots of friends and socialised Caper and Ziva. They both enjoyed the experience and mugged everyone they could. I came home to thaw out!

Today, Barbara and I took Sam, Zig the collie and Cerise to play in the field and they had a great time. Soli the Laekenois is on holiday and posed beautifully for me to take some photos.
It wouldbe nice to think that it will remain sunny for the rest of the week and today the wind had dropped making it so nice to be outside with the dogs.

A really busy couple of weeks with the BSDA of GB club open show where Cello was BOB and BVet in Breed, Sam was RBD and Res BOB and Deepha BOppSex in Malinois. Remy was BD and BoppSex, Elle won her class, and Cerise was 2nd in Open Bitch. It was a good day out and great to see Gerry and Steve again. Charli the Laekenois puppy came along and took everything in his stride. Penny Draper was there doing her heelwork to music and here is her Yorn daughter Secret doing her stuff!

Some really good training sessions with Cello, Cruz and Caper last week.

Ruger went to his new home with Gill and Simon and has settled in well--the only problem being a bit of sheep worrying (see photo).

This weekend was the Contest of Champions at Heathrow where the Belgians were out in force(Malinois, Tervueren and Groenendael ) and all showed well. All went out in the first round but they looked great. Ann took Deepha and thoroughly enjoyed herself.

Lots of visitors this weekend which was nice. Solli has come for a holiday while Christines' bitches are in season and she took one of the Laeken bitches back for some socialising. Still got pups left here from that litter, all bitches, great characters and very outgoing.

Gaston and Claire arrive wednesday for a few days :) then we are on countdown for Bali to go off to Linda and Kathrine in Norway next week.

Well Crufts is over for another year and we did very well.

In Groenendael Psyche (Delark Secret Love of Bonvivant) was 4th in a very strong Open Bitch class, ably handled by Brittany Winfrow.

In Laekenois Jo with Pudsey(Bonvivant Vif***) was BD and Martin with Antar(Bonvivant Vos for Brighu***) RBD, and Yvonnes' lovely Bree(Bonvivant Vivace***), RBB. Well done to Debbie and Paul with Ghiana for BB and BOB.
The week has flown by with training for Cello, Cruz and Caper. Jacki Snooks came and collected her Laekenois puppy Charli, and Gill and Simon came to see their new Malinois puppy, Ruger.

A lovely weekend with Martin and Ann staying,lots of catching up to do and spent a great Sunday with friends, Barbara, Wendy and another Wendy, photographing dogs and having lunch together.

The Laekenois pups have had an exhausting day out in the paddock, they had lots of visitors too. Barbara and John came over to kindly do some repair work on the kennel and some grooming. Tired and hungry the Laekenois were glad to come in to bed and I think they will be sleeping extremely well tonight.

The Malinois pups are still indoors and have been playing and sleeping. So nice to have a sunny day again even if it was a bit cold.

Fantastic news from Jo with Keisha and David with Rusty that they are going to the Belgian Shepherd World Championships! Four Malinois (2 are Andy and Helen Browns' ) have got on the team!!!

Crufts in only 4 days!!! so a lot of work to do to get everyone looking their best.

Another week gone and the pups are really feeling their feet now. The Malinois are up on their feet and will soon need the run of the whole puppy pen. They are beginning to get their little characters.

The Laekenois are a cheeky bunch and today the sun was shining and they could come out to play. They are really livewires and try to beat you out of the run door when you make your escape from their sharp teeth. Very outgoing and inquisitive.

News from Guernsey that Venus flew to Jersey for the Dog of the Year competition and Limited Members show. She was 1st in AVNSC Ltd members class,1st Yearling class and 1st Ltd Members under Peter Bailey and then was pulled out 7th in the Best Yearling in Show class under Carol Woods. Brilliant news and her photo will hopefully be in Our Dogs 12th March edition.

Some good training last week with Cello, Cruz and Caper and we had an obedience show yesterday at Newark. We did training rounds and Cello was on a real high--he, or should I say I, was much better in his Beginners round once he had settled. Cruz worked really well too and this was his first Open Obedience show with all the distractions so I was really pleased.

Crufts is looming and this bad weather has really put paid to the dogs being as fit as I would like, and some are threatening to come in season or blow their coats. Breeders Stakes Finals is on the Friday so we will be there 2 days. David and Rusty are running in the Agility Champ class on the Sunday so fingers and toes crossed for that 3rd Ticket.

Deepha and Ann have been invited to the Contest of Champions in March.

Riley, with Diane and Martin, has been winning again in agility and hopefully I will get some photos of him with his trophies to post on here soon.

The weather has been horrific with torrential rain so that everywhere is thick mud again,roll on a nice summer!!!!!

Here we go again with more snow--of course the dogs love it. Caper thinks it is strange when there is no snow. Yaz and Chic had a great time in it.

Malinois puppies are really getting there little characters now and are responding when I talk to them. Soon be tearing around.

Most of the snow has melted tonight and we have a really hard frost yet again--is Spring ever going to appear?

The Laekenois puppies are now 7 weeks old and into everything. Very bold and greet everyone that comes to play with them.

The Malinois puppies are 2 weeks old and have their eyes open. Chiraze is a good mother and keeps them scrupulously clean.

News from Guernsey that Venus (from the previous Laekenois litter) is off to Jersey for the Dog of the Year competition! Good Luck Sue and Venus.

Brissie has won a Nursery stakes in agility.

Caper attended his first proper obedience class today and was a very good boy. Lots of work to do but he took everything in his stride. He was a very tired puppy when he got home.

Cello and Cruz have an obedience competition at the end of the month so more training needed !

More mud here so the dogs still can't stay out in their paddocks for long without getting plastered--roll on summer!

We have puppies at last !!!!! Chiraze has 2 bitches and 2 dogs. It has been an exceedingly long day from 5am this morning when she started to shred her paper. After a couple of hours she was very quiet and we decided to have her checked over at the vets as a precaution, after which we took a bumpy ride home and she had her first puppy, a male. The second puppy was stuck so she needed a bit of assistance, a bitch, and then another bitch followed by a dog. All are very strong puppies and are feeding well. Chiraze is a very good mother.(apologies for the top picture but you have to start them young :))

There always seems to be something good and then something bad-- Bonvivant Accapella,Pye, almost 13 years old, passed away this afternoon. Pye came back to me 12 years ago and, after sorting out a few issues, he became a lovely dog who was still patrolling as a security dog this time last year. He is the mad fool starring in "The attack of the fensnake" and was a good friend to Chiraze. Pye was, like all my dogs, very special, and loved shredded paper and cuddles. Only two nights ago he was trying to help pull the paper out of the sack and then doing headstands in his bed of paper. He had been having some problems losing the strength in his back legs but was on medication for the last 6months. Always bouncing at feedtime and then waiting for his rug to be put on and his goodnight biscuit. Run free and strong with Cachet and Ciel --Pye pye.

Chiraze is keeping us waiting to have her puppies but is getting nearer.

Meanwhile, Ann came for a visit and played with the Laekenois puppies and then we went for a very frosty walk with Cruz and Psyche.

The temperature has plummeted again and the water to the house was frozen for two mornings yet again. But the sun is shining and it is much dryer outside so very pleasant. The sprout pickers have had a couple of days off thank goodness so we have had a better chance of sleep and the tractor has been ploughing, but at a much more reasonable time :)

Apologies for not updating but it has been really busy here with Chiraze arriving home. Gaston travelled over from Belgium on Sunday morning and will stay until the puppies are born. Chiraze has her whelping box ready in the study and is due any day now. The radiograph taken last week showed only 4 puppies which are all spoken for already. I am praying that there is at least one bitch for Linda in Norway.

The Laekenois puppies are 4 weeks old and are well into their puppy food. Their characters are beginning to emerge and are all very cheeky. Most have big coats and look very different from Malinois puppies. Their masks are still quite well defined, as was Brizos' when she was a puppy.
There are still puppies available from this litter.

Caper is growing really fast now and I tried Yazoos' collar on him and could hardly do it up!!!

Cruz went back to training this week and he has really come on mentally and physically over the winter. Hard to think that he is almost 2 years old now.

I hope that the "Y" litter ( Yukon, Lili and Darcy ) had a good 1st birthday. Chic and Yaz had some treats.

The sprout pickers arrive before 5 o'clock every morning, talking and shouting, then the machines start--poor Gaston has not had much sleep either. The road is now a ploughed up track so we have not had many visitors :(.

A bit of catching up to do! The weather was too bad for me to get to Boston Ch Show and my van isn't very good on ice so it just wasn't worth the risk-a drawback of living out in the sticks. Very disappointing, but Bridgit travelled down from Scotland and called in for a visit on her way home which was lovely. She brought Tiva and Rio (and her brother Shaun) to see us and we had a very cold walk up the lane to get a bit of steam off the dogs before their long drive home.
Caper is 14 weeks old now and growing really fast. The Laekenois pups are thriving and peep out of their slitty eyes but are really more interested in sleeping off their milk. Termite is a good mother but gets bored babysitting so has decided to designerdog my whelping kennel. :(( inside and out!

News from Belgium that Chiraze is definitely in whelp and will be travelling home very soon :))

It is snowing again!! We had a couple of days where it began to thaw, which brought the new problem of ice skating-even the sure footed Belgians had trouble staying upright. So back to the crunchy white stuff--will it ever end? So far so good though, at least the water hasn't frozen again this week but it is an endless round of lugging water round dogs and chickens.

Freezing fog and sleet tonight--let's see what happens tomorrow.

There is something about snow which makes even the laziest of dogs-like Celine--have a funny five minutes. Caper was so relieved that the snow was back so he didn't have to rush in to use his paper-very strange puppy. He is growing so fast and has legs like tree trunks but is so agile. His new trick is to jump up onto the dining table, steal something, then run off again (via the chair) before anyone spots him. Shades of Celine who, as a puppy, was often found standing on the table!

The chickens appreciated cold but dry and sunny today and at the first snow flurry head under the caravan. This is one of the beautiful Faverolle hens in her winter muff and leg warmers.

Well below freezing again tonight and I have to keep the washing machine going all night to stop the pipes freezing again. More rounds of water buckets as the hose pipe will not thaw out. Yorn is very grateful he got a new puffa rug for Christmas in Emperor purple! as befits his Royal Highness!

Happy New Year !!!!

Here at last are a few pictures of the Laekenois puppies. They are actually quite dark but the heat lamp makes them look more orange. Their coats are quite broken already and they all seem quite strong now. Termite is settling down to her maternal duties .

Another really hard frost and the water thought about freezing again! Another round of thawing out water for the livestock but at least it is dry and sunny so the chickens are not too miserable.

Sorry for lack of news the last few days but, after a lovely Christmas Day with my mum and friends I went down with the gastric bug which literally knocked me off my feet.
True to Belgian form Termite decided to have her puppies a week too early--sadly she lost a couple that were just not strong enough but, she has 4 bitches and 3 dogs which, fingers crossed, will be ok now. They are all feeding well and Termite is getting the hang of motherhood. I will endeavour to take some photos tomorrow as I am still a bit wobbly.

Hurray!!!!!!!!! we have water at last thanks to a paint stripper heater! Thawed out the water pipes and then the downpipes as the bath wouldn't empty last night. I had the most decadent bath for about 2 hrs just topping up with hot ! water --a little snooze and came down to find the new woodburner being fitted--it's so warm and cosy now! Dare I say almost too warm! :)

Martin arrived for the holidays so off in the morning to get more animal feed and some last minute bits for Christmas day. It sleeted here earlier and freezing fog was closing in and now water is dripping everywhere. I took a few pics as the light was going--so fuzzy due to the long shutter speed (Celines' nose is not really that shape but she moved before the shutter closed) but it gives you an idea of how bleak it is out here. The last one is of the sprout fields which surround us--we have been so lucky not to have had those harvested before Christmas-lots of mud to come in the New Year but at the moment it doesn't seem quite so bad Lol!

Rhodes and Celine are still enjoying the snow with Caper who has taken the opportunity to house train himself as he is in such a rush to get out there--not so sure he will be that keen once the snow goes though. At least it takes the edge off his enthusiasm for terrorizing everyone-he comes in and sleeps soundly after a towel dry.

Just made some Pate for a starter, now to plan the rest of the menu and bake some cakes and mince pies at last.

Merry Christmas everyone--keep warm and take care out on those roads--not so sure we have seen the last of this yet.

Well it's still snowing! It has been a bit of a week as the water pipes have frozen so no water in the house at all-what a nightmare! Thanks to friends we have been filling up containers but you just don't realise how much water you get through in a day--and take it for granted that it will just be there. No water for the forseeable future either as the pipes had burst recently and had all been replaced but not had time to dig back in so they won't thaw out until the weather warms up. It takes ages thawing out the chickens drinkers and defrosting bunny bottles. Even the manger buckets in the main kennels have frozen by the morning. Looking forward to going to a friends for a bath too!!!

Caper decided to follow his mum and half brother Rhodes out into the snow, and he thinks it is great fun! He wants to be like his brother when he grows up and follows him everywhere--much to Rhodes' disgust. He is such a confident little chap and wasn't phased by it at all.

Belgians seem to love snow and it certainly makes them very silly!!!!

Snow today, everything is white over and quite deep and we had quite a heavy snow fall earlier-sun is out now. Remy, who is staying here whilst Phil is in hospital, loves playing in it, as does Cougar. Bunny, despite being almost 11yrs old, acts like a puppy as soon as it gets cold and frosty.

The chickens, however, were not at all impressed, but the Favarolles braved it--beautiful birds and seem very hardy. The others stayed in bed once they had had their breakfast. More snow forecast, but it is better than the mud--until it thaws! Feels like Christmas but I bet it won't last--our lane is lovely and quiet as we don't get cleared.

The weather has changed again and the temperature has plummeted, with -9 degrees forecast for next week !

Caper went for his first obedience class and was very surprised to see a black and white puppy--he hadn't a clue what it was-but he was very good and very confident in a strange place without his mum. He has turned into quite the mountaineer and has had to be rescued from very high places--onwards and upwards seems to be his latest motto. He starts big school at the end of January.

Sad time yesterday as I took the ancient lurcher, Double Diamond, to be put to sleep at 16 years old.

I am hoping to install a woodburning stove in the kennels soon as, with well below freezing temperatures being forecast,it will take the chill off. Old people will have to have winter rugs this week-if they will keep them on.

Cougar has things sussed. After his morning game with the rugby ball and a mad scat he bounces into the study and settles down for a nap under the desk. I caught him here on the settee having a kip--it was warmer there than on the floor!

Caper is having great games with his mum now but she is having to put him firmly in his place now and again.He is such a character and so like his dad Zippy in many ways.

Weather has been cold and miserable again and we so need some hard frosts to dry the paddocks out so the dogs can spend more time out there. Freezing here tonight so maybe the rain has stopped for a while! The mud makes all jobs really hard and the chickens are not impressed either. They have been enjoying the small amount of sunshine and have been free ranging to try and give their runs a chance of drying out.

News from Ireland that Toyah has had two healthy pups but so disappointing that both were males--last time she had 5 males and I know Jean was desperately hoping for a female this time.

News from Belgium that Chiraze has passed her brevet "chien d'accompagnement" BH with Gaston. She has also been mated to Strike du Domaine de Varoux. She has a show in December and then will be scanned before returning home to, hopefully, have her puppies.

A mixed bag of weather again with cold, wet windy and sunny. Here is Vogue who has found a lovely sunny dry spot to sunbathe.

Cello had two Christmas parties which he thoroughly enjoyed and he had David for his Tuesday night and Ria for the Wednesday afternoon. Plenty of cake and sausage rolls kept him very happy. No training now until the third week in January so lots of work to do over the holiday.

Caper has a new bed--well two --no expense spared! He likes his banana boxes and has some toys in one and has taken a couple of toys into the one he likes to sleep in. He has modified the edges a bit but they are nice and draught proof.

Sadly I lost my two old this weekend-they must have been about 8yrs old which is old for Guinea Pigs.

Caper is 6 weeks old now and a cheeky chap. He insisted on trotting through some stinging nettles and then held his paw up to say how much it hurt. Celine is very tolerant but he is starting to play a bit rougher now and she does put him in his place.

Yesterday was the meeting to discuss Inter Variety mating between Groenendael and Tervueren. It was held at the new KC building at Stoneleigh with Jeff Sampson.

Cross registration(Groenendael in Tervueren litters/Tervueren in Groenoendael litters) has now been allowed indefinitely.

A Breeders Commission will be formed with three candidates from each of the three clubs (BSDA,NBSDC and WBSDS) which will assess each individual claim for IV matings and then submit them to the KC. A letter will be printed in the dog papers shortly inviting anyone who wishes to be put forward to stand on this committee to submit a CV, detailing their interest and knowledge of the breed, to one of the breed clubs for consideration.

Wet, windy and blustery this week but Yaz and Chic enjoyed a game of tug with an old strap they found in the garden. They spent ages racing around.

The chickens nearly got blown away and have decided it is just too miserable to lay any eggs.

Training went really well with Cello and Cruz and I must get some competitions organised for next year.

Christmas party the first week in December and we are having a competition drawing each others dogs name and then have to do some basic exercises. I don't think many people want to draw Cellos' name out of the hat--can't think why not :)) he gets a bit enthusiastic about the treats and does the Mali snap which sounds far worse than it is (as long as they don't use liver cake Lol!)

Caper is growing so fast now and he will start his training in the New Year. I am really looking forward to training him as he is so like his dad Zippy. Weaning him may pose a bit of a problem as Celine shows no sign of discouraging him and he eats his dinners as well as having the milk bar. He is into everything now and likes watching daytime TV crashed out on a duvet. I found him lying on top of Celine today chewing her ears and she is too tolerant really.

News from Belgium that Chiraze should be mated this week to Strike, so maybe she will be home soon.

Saturday was the first day of Discover Dogs at Earls Court in London. I took Cruz,Brizo and Psyche along and met up with Karin and Iris and Martin. Karin had made a fabulous display board of Indi and Lowland Search Dog information. Karin took Indi and Yukon and they were brilliant, real ambassadors for the breed, meeting the general public, along with Cruz who would get a good job at Asda as a meet and greet employee. Martin took Antar and Zinka and were joined, periodically, by Brizo who was working the crowd and booth hopping along with Psyche. Cruz was especially good as he got almost sat on by a very enthusiastic young Guide Dog, and a terrier whose owner had no idea what her dog was doing at the end of a flexi lead. Children were duly washed and hugged and we had a lot of comments from people at how they always get a good welcome from the Belgians.

Caroline was there with Otto, Bonvivant Hazur, and was the only Belgian running in the Starters Agility Finals that day. He was just pipped to 2nd in the Jumping by a Kelpie, and was 4th in the Agility and overall 4th. Well Done Caroline, I know you were very nervous but you did us proud.

The booths all looked lovely, adorned with Belgian flags and beautiful photos and lovely Belgians of all four varieties.

What a tiring day, I don't know how people do both days or maybe I'm getting old. Thankfully I travelled with Jacqui and Sue, but it took us hours to get out of London. I have done"not a lot" today and the dogs were really tired too.

David, Candice, Grace and Alex volunteered to do Sunday and I can't wait to see the pics as they had leaflets, stickers and t-shirts made especially and were taking Kiah, Rusty and Tia.

Thankyou to all of you for volunteering, it is nice to see such enthusiasm and pride in your dogs, and putting something back into the breed.

I have been offline for a while but found lots to keep me busy!

Caper is now 5 weeks old and has had his first explore outside today. He is a very good puppy but has learnt how to get out of his playpen and is usually found asleep on a vetbed near Celine or eating (his favourite pastime). He is good during the night but then Celine opens the gate for him and he climbs up the duvet to wake me up. The photos start at 4 weeks where he was making himself comfy on the settee and watching a bit of TV (shades of his Great Grandma Cachet), He hasn't a spare bit of skin due to the full cream milk diet Celine is giving him. She plays nicely with him and he is quite the timewaster when he is pouncing on her tail or hanging off her ears. He is learning to come when called and does a little sit too--he is already enrolled on his first puppy course along with Cello and Cruz. Zippy loved obedience when he was a youngster so hopefully he will follow in his pawprints. He has had his collar on already and, although it makes him walk like a crab at times, he isn't too bad about it.He is definitely a character and, hopefully, will be of real use to the breed too when he grows up. I have started his little black book already :)) .

Sunday was Cellos' first Open obedience show in PreBeginners and Beginners, just training rounds but he was a good boy and, despite the wind,really concentrated on his work and did some lovely heelwork and turns. He looked around, saw there were lots of collies, met lots of his obedience friends, and seemed to know that he wasn't at a breed show where he is normally way over the top! Lots of winter training now and hopefully he will compete properly next year. Having just celebrated his eighth birthday he is doing really well in his new career. He was glowing on Tuesday night at club so I think he feels one of the "in crowd" now Lol!!!

Celine had only one puppy, a male, which is growing extremely fast. He has his eyes open now and gets fatter every day.

The chickens are nearly all out in their new pens (old kennels) and I had 3 new hens for my birthday to add to the laying flock. The youngest of the chicks are now moved into the shed for the next few weeks, especially as it has turned so chilly at night, so they still need a heatlamp. Out of 11 Favarolles 5 are male, 5 female and 1 who knows as it looks like it might be a cross with something else. Photos to follow.

Off to Midland Counties on Saturday so Remy and Maisie have been to visit. They are enjoying their new life with Phil and Ollie. Some dogs just do so much better in a home environment so, although it was hard to see Remy leave home, he is just down the road and he visits regularly.

The amazing thing about Lincolnshire is the amount of sky--and the sunsets are really beautiful. If you painted them people would think you imagined them. Here is one I took last year at the wind farm and two I took tonight on the way back from a walk. Garth and I took the two Malinois pups for a walk on the stubble field--they don't go far so it is hard to get any shots. It was getting dark too so I didn't get many.--some had alien eyes but here are a couple. The nights are drawing in fast now. We haven't had any rain since July and the ground is really hard too.

Sunny day again so took Chic and Yaz for a walk--soon wore them out on the stubble field and Yaz had to cool his feet off in the water trough when he got home. Celine went for a very slow walk--no expending too much energy for her-and had to have a rest on a straw bale half way to pose for a few photos. Then she had to rest on the sofa the rest of the day as it was all too much having to do some exercise!

Caught up on cleaning out chickens and moving the youngsters into a bigger pen--don't think the Marans will be too happy when they wake up tomorrow and find they have moved into smaller accommodation though !!!!

News from Belgium where Chiraze has been to the Pumpkin Festival. The first picture was taken at the French Nationals this year where she was graded Excellent. She now has 4 CACIBs but still no sign of her season. We really miss her but, as you can see, she is having a great time with Claire and Gaston.

Below are some photos of one of the French Wheaten hens, my favourite, a Salmon Faverolle hen and Corky the Millefleur Pekin cockerel who has been watching the Kelloggs advert and stands on top of his coop crowing merrily!

Only a few more days before our last crop of eggs should hatch-we are playing safe this time after a terrible hatch last time from Ebay eggs so we sourced eggs closer to home plus a few from our own hens.

No training for Cello this week as he seemed a little off colour so Cruz had two days and is coming along very well. His heelwork position is getting a lot more consistent--he certainly isn't lacking in the enthusiasm department now and, although he is not retrieving yet, he would like to get everyone elses dumbell! Cello was not amused to be left at home and I had to make it up to him with some lamb stew and chicken. Of course he is back to normal now but will have to wait until next weeks lesson to see all his friends. Plenty of homework for both the boys and I have actually entered a couple of shows--training rounds only-to get Cello used to working in a show situation. He will be 8yrs old next month and is loving his career change!

Spent a lovely day with Gill and Simon who had come to visit us and see the dogs again. They are waiting for a Malinois puppy to compete in Agility, both have worked in the Police Force and do a lot of work with dogs. Simon loves cooking so I experimented with a new recipe of Ricotta and herbs stuffed chicken with sweetcorn and french beans sauted in garlic and spring onions. Pictured above is my latest loaf stuffed with Antipasti and roasted peppers. It all went down a treat.

They are hoping that their puppy will come from Celine to Zippy, but will wait if the right puppy is not in that litter. I am so looking forward to seeing what this mating will produce; Zippy (top picture) is by Lanaeken Standout at Sabrefield(2nd picture) x Sabrefield Right Answer for Bonvivant. This was the first mating I ever did in Malinois and produced some brilliant working dogs and Ciel (B. Arc en Ciel), who I sadly lost this year. Zippy has never sired a litter before and, at almost 13, I must admit I was just hoping that he would be viable. His colour is still an amazing deep red and his mask so defined. Scissor bite and full dentition,clear eyes and hips 7 (scored at 11.5 yrs). That litter did have strong character but I am hoping that this combination will gel. We will see in a couple of weeks-I can't believe the time has gone so quickly since the mating.(All I want is a red Ciel--not too much to ask surely?????)

Thanks for the recipe for Sloe Gin, Simon,--I shall have to get bottling fast as it takes 6 weeks to mature--and then a very interesting recipe with the steeped fruit afterwards!

Darlington yesterday and Deepha was BBand BOB, Lexi RBB, Cougar BD and Sam RBD. Chic was BP. Lexi was also 4th in the RBB competition. We won the Pastoral Breeders Group and that qualified us for the Finals at Crufts 2010 !!!!! Good to know we are through and don't have to worry about getting those last few points this year.
A lazy day today just pottering around doing the necessary jobs,moving chickens around and napping. The weather was lovely and warm too. Rissa went off to her new home with a lovely family and the latest report is that she is settling in well. Just Elle at home now so looking forward to showing her at a couple of Ch shows soon.
Visitors tomorrow coming to see the dogs so must get some bread baked and something sorted for lunch.

A lovely weekend despite diversions on the roads which made our journey a very long one to Richmond Ch show. Just made it in time to rush poor Yazoo into his class. Deepha took the CC!!! (must have been the grooming Ann :)) ) with Cougar RCC BOS, Yaz RBD, BP and Lexi RBB. 2nd in the Breeders Stakes so only 3 more points to qualify. In Laekenois Antar was BD, BOS. Femme RBB.

Today I went to a local Greyhound Rescue Companion show where Elle was BPIS and won a beautiful cut glass tankard, Bruine won Open and won a cut glass rosebowl. It was a bit chilly today but good for the dogs after yesterdays heatwave. Met lots of friends old and new.

Great news from David and Candice that Rusty has won 5 Grade 7 classes in her last 2 shows with a Reserve Agility CC.

Busy as usual with a couple of outings to local companion shows to get more practice for the pups and Basil, they thoroughly enjoyed themselves with some nice placings too. Very relaxing and have seen some lovely dogs of all breeds competing. Nice weather has meant the dogs can get out in the paddocks and play all day, very tired but happy dogs.

Psyche and I went to Birmingham Ch show where she was 3rd in OB, I thought she was a bit lethargic and found she had cut her stopper pad so she didn't show too well. Never mind it was a nice day out and gave me a chance to meet up with friends and watch some judging for a change.

Richmond this weekend with a single CC, I will be glad to see the back of them as I cannot see the point. Only a few more shows this season and I am hoping that our Breeders Team will make the finals at Crufts next year. With our recent win in the Group at WKC this now seems possible; we haven't made the finals for a couple of years and I didn't think we had a chance this year under the new system.

The chickens are multiplying and we have had some new editions hatch out too.

Exciting news that Celine looks to be in whelp to Zippy, this will be his first litter at the grand old age of 12.5 and I have never managed to continue this line before. I am hoping for a rich red Ciel lookalike (well I can hope!). This should open the gene pool up a bit too, with the addition of the Lanaeken lines again behind Zippy.

Chiraze has still not come in season yet but has taken another CACIB abroad, it does seem strange without her but hopefully she will return in whelp soon.

More exciting news that we have mated Zinka to a Brizo son so Martin hopes for Laekenois puppies soon.

In Ireland Bonvivant Raphael, (Tervueren) Ralph, has gone into Grade 4 Agility.

A very busy week since I last wrote with the usual obedience training and an extra days' training with Cruz. We hardly paused for breath and we were off to WKC where he got his First CC ! Barbara travelled with me and Sam won his class. I took the two pups with me and Yazoo had BP and, to my astonishment, the RDCC! Ysatis was 2nd to a Cougar daughter, Goldmali Could it be Magic. Deepha had the RBCC. We went through to the Pastoral Breeders Stakes and won it too under Michael Quinney.

In Tervueren Sezanne Zantos, a Bruine son was BPIB, a Yorn daughter, Draigele Nimue was 3rd in LB and a Yorn daughter, Bonvivant Destiny for Grizwold 4th LB. Kimbesha Ruby, a Taeus daughter, was 3rd in OB.

In Laekenois RBD was Bonvivant Voltaire of Grizwold.

I shall post the Tervueren results for the club shows shortly. It has been hard to find time to get on the computer lately with the nights starting to draw in now and so much to catch up on.

Hopefully I shall hear the results from the French Nationals soon where Chiraze was competing.

A great week with 2 Club shows, a beach picnic party , BBQ and fun traning day. The dogs all had fun and I think everyone, apart from being shattered, enjoyed themselves.

I shall post results but, as the computer has been on and off due to the weather, I am still trying to catch up.

Brilliant news from Finland where Bonvivant Yvre (Lili) was BPIS2 from an entry of 67 Malinois! A great photo of her by Colleen Morgan who was over here for the UK shows and then sped off to the Finnish Speciality.

The beach was fun and all the dogs enjoyed racing about after the ball and little Yaz soon joined in too.

I don't know where the time has gone and so much has been going on in the past couple of weeks. I went to East of England show with Ann, taking Cougar who was BD and BOB, Cher 2nd OB, Deepha was 3rd. Cougar was also pulled out in the Group but not placed. In Groenendael Psyche won OB class and the CC(her first) and BOB. I must have looked surprised as I had been rushing up and down to the brace stakes and had "forgotten" we had tickets for Grons.

Last week I was judging at NW&PS and found an exciting young dog, Becanbrie Rohan at Linvetts, for the CC and BOB. Bitch CC went to a lovely young puppy bitch, Revloch XFactor. In Laekenois Ghiana d'Eroudur was BB and BOB and was pulled out in the Group, but unplaced, under a Finnish judge and Best Pastoral Rare Breed. Tervueren and Malinois were judged by Trevor Wheeler and Deepha had a RBCC to Camylle des iles des Sud who is a half sister to Cliche.In Tervueren Bruine and Yorn kids were placed in their classes.

The society were most welcoming and made sure we had plenty of good food. I had Terry and Maureen Donovan(Mr and Mrs Polo) as stewards so everything went smoothly, I really enjoyed my day.

Plenty of training in between with Cello and Cruz, and here is Cello practising his stays up the lane while I took photos. Cello loves his retrieve the best and is getting really good at his scent now.

News from abroad where Chiraze took yet another CAC and BOB ! Still not in season so I have entered her for the French Nationals. Thankyou Claire and Gaston for making this possible and looking after her so well. It is strange without her here but she is having a really good time and, at last, getting the recognition she deserves.

The back to back club shows are only a week away now so everyone is busy blowing their coats or coming in season--wouldn't you just know that would happen! I must get planning for the arrival of the campers the week after and organise the Beach picnic and Fun training day with BBQ. It has come round with amazing speed but I am so looking forward to seeing dogs and people we haven't seen for ages. I think it will be a weekend of grooming in preparation--if I can find any coats to groom !

The weather has finally broken and there is some air at last--we had some thunder and rain but it was warm in between.

Day 2 of Teazles tracking training and she definitely has got the hang of it. After a successful arced track she had a game with the big orange buoy we have in the field. She got quite manic about it and dribbled it round the field with accompanying barks of delight!

Steve had to go home today but not before we had had an impromptu bread making session. I have wanted to make my own bread for a long time but, only last week, decided to have a go. I was so fed up of buying bread only for it to grow furry jackets within a couple of days and not having any flavour. We made some multi-grain brown bread with cranberries, and tried out a new Rosemary bread recipe for the first time. Steve took his loaves home for Gerry to try out and the verdict was--success! Very tasty, the only problem being that they probably won't last as long as shop bought as they are too nice !

We have had a lovely weekend, Steve came down for a few days with Kyp and Teazle while Gerry was away with her daughters at Longleat and we went to Dogs Unleashed at Newark, a doggy extravaganza. There was Flyball, Agility, Scurries etc and Teazle and Kyp had a go at the weight pulling. They firstly put a pulling harness on and then attach a chain, once the dog is used to dragging that behind them they then add a small metal sled . The idea is to add weights to it but Teazle tried out the trailer which weighs 240kg, being on wheels once the initial pull is done it is easier to pull. Kyp tried the ball pool, where they had to try and retrieve as many toys as possible in one minute--the balls with black dots on earned them a biscuit. Barbara was there with Deja, Sam and Ziggy for the Agility and had a couple of clear rounds.

Kim and Gary brought their Bruine kids down and we took some photos. Carol had Darcy and Lucky on the CSJ trade stand so we took some photos of them with the stand too. I took Maisie, Rissa and Elle and they had a walk round, bouncing on unsuspecting passers by. We saw lots of Belgians there too.

Today we stayed at home and Steve started to teach Teazle to track, she soon started to get the hang of it. It was hot again so we watched the Mens Finals at Wimbledon in the cool and then took Teazle out to play in the field whilst we moved some fencing.

The weather is unbearably hot and sticky and the dogs are fed up. It is too hot to put them out during the day so they have to go out in the evenings. I have been grooming in the shade as much as possible but they all seem to be blowing their coats big style.

The Malinois pups have been crashed out trying to keep cool, with quick bursts of playing and lots of paddling in their water trough.

The chicken coops arrived and we now have four pens ready. Today saw the arrival of four Silver Laced Wyandottes (you wouldn't believe how many different breeds of chicken there are), these are the Bantam version and are very spectacular. They are very young birds and hadn't a clue about going to bed in their new house so it was a job to catch them and put them to bed. The chicks were badly affected by the humidity and we now are left with only two sadly--fingers crossed they will survive.

WOW what a weekend !! There was me just doing my dogs at home when I got a phonecall to say that Ann Brown with Deepha had not only gone BOB but won the Pastoral Group at Blackpool Championship show, making Breed history, being the only Malinois Ever to win a Group at this level in the UK !!! We will definitely be celebrating this win when they come down to stay in a couple of weeks time!

Meanwhile Grace with Kiah won Grade 3 Agility and is now into Grade 4. What a star !

Jo has had a good weekend too. Keisha won Novice Jumping,Novice Agility and 4th in Power and Speed; Kody 4th Primary Jumping,Ronny 1st Primary Agility and 2nd Primary Jumping. In Flyball the Brickyard Bandits were 3rd with a time of 20.05. In the ABC pairs Ronny and kody were 2nd and Ronny won the ABC Singles !! A great videoclip of Pudsey (Laekenois) doing his first Flyball run on Jos' blog (link below mali-mania).

Just when I thought it was safe to get my supper and get to bed Lisa rang to say that Fidget had decided to start whelping. She wasn't due until Thursday but she was such a size I think she had no option! Two pups had decided to arrive together and this was not going to happen so I had to manipulate one back to get the first one born. After that they came regularly and all were good strong pups. 4 bitches and 3 dogs and it looks like there are 3 greys. I had expected some as Fidgets' sister, Flic, is grey as is Bruine. It was a long night but lovely to see Fidget happy with her brood.

Training Tuesday and Wednesday with Cello and Crusoe. Cello blotted his copybook when he nipped off on the way to his retrieve to grab some yummy chocolate cake that had been brought to celebrate Davids' win in B. Joan makes the best choc cake and Cello just loves it--he did go and do his retrieve afterwards, then washed his cake down with some elderflower wine!

What a busy week, and I did intend to update a lot sooner but the time just sped by. I had some lovely photos sent to me this week. Two from Bridgit of Tiva, one of her looking like something out of Return of the Jedi with her sandy boots on, and one of her at an exemption show getting her Rosette. Max is having a great time and is seen here relaxing with his equine friend--what a great photo.

Yukon, a Chili son is looking good on the settee and has been busy making friends at the agility shows.

It has been another chicken week--we now have six chicks--only a few days old, but they are growing so fast! In the next few days we are going to try hatching some eggs from various rare breed eggs--fingers crossed we will have little chicks by mid-july (hopefully we will get a good hatch rate). We have been making pens for when they are big enough to go out and I will post before,during and after photos. The hens are beginning to lay a few eggs now and they are quite fascinating to watch. I shan't be showing them though :)) I never knew there were so many different breeds and we have been visiting a local rare breeds farm, being followed by goslings and even seeing a newly hatched Rhea chick--amazing creature.

The weather, on the whole, has been glorious, and the dogs have all had plenty of run time-hopefully getting a bit fitter after such a long winter of cold,wet weather. More obedience training for Cello and Cruz and they are definitely getting a lot better despite my rusty handling--you never know we may be ready to compete by next year ! I must take some more photos but I have been catching up on more mundane kennel jobs and lots of grooming.

I went to see Fidget who is due to whelp any day, she is enormous but very cheerful despite looking as if she might explode at any moment!

Rusty and David gained their 2nd Agility CC this weekend !Brilliant!

Karin with Indi went to their Search and Rescue training and Indi was a very good boy. Karin says he loves his work and has really good concentration, and will be going forward for their assessment, along with Richards' Folly (working Mal), in September. Thanks Karin for the great pictures of Indi working.

I am hoping that the weather stays fine tomorrow so Udall can have his bath and groom ready for his owners' return on Tuesday. He has had a great holiday playing with Vogue, Brizo and Psyche. Lots of grooming to catch up on this week too.

There aren't enough hours in a day lately. Busy week with two training sessions for Cello and Crusoe, both boys were well behaved and enjoyed themselves. Three more hens have arrived, this time Speckeldys, so now there are 6 hens with theis rather handsome Maran cockerel. We have been clearing a new area in the field where we can put up some new runs and we have some Silver Lace Wyandottes on the way. Getting a few eggs every day which is nice.

Managed to get a few shots of the guinea pigs too today, the dark one is ancient and very much the matriarch-must be about 5 years old now. Very old in Guinea pig years.

The weather has been lovely so the dogs all got a turn out in the paddock. Chris came over and got mugged by Yaz who hasn't heard that Malinois are wary at all--he launched himself and landed in his lap for a cuddle. Chic had a cuddle too but preferred to play with her toys. It won't be long before they are out in the ring now--their first shows will be at the back to back club show in August.

Hope the weather will be fine that week as we have our usual camping here with a training day and BBQ on the 5th with Wendy Fairlamb taking the agility sessions. Sunday I decided to go up to Newark to the Spinone Champ show to meet up with Lynn where she was manning the CSJ stand. The idea was to take a few dogs with me and find time to do some obedience practice and socialising with a couple of pups. As I set off the heavens opened with thunder and lightening and it was pouring down all day. Needless to say the dogs didn't get out much!

Lynn stayed over and what a totally different day--sunshine and we went off to pick strawberries and go to the farm shop for more cake.We visited Wendy and had a Bristle hug and a cup of coffee and then back home to take some photos of Quest and her daughter Rowan in the field. Altogether a nice day and then Lynn went off home. Lisa and Chris brought a rejuvenated Sophie to visit along with a barrel shaped Fidget--only a couple of weeks before her litter is due. Solo came too as they had been walking out at the reservoir.

I stole some photos from Bridgits Facebook and this is of one of Fidgets' Yorn daughter, Tiva. Training tomorrow with Cello and Crusoe is going Wednesday to see what we can do.

Busy week as usual with lots of visitors to see the dogs. Cello had two training days and worked really well. Ewa and Benjamin came to stay for the weekend with Dodi and Vialli. Dodi and Tia had a good game in the field.

The dogs have had a lot of paddock time as the weather has held for a few days and the pups have spent lots of time playing out there. Chic and Yazoo went to the vets as it was time for Chics' bloodtest, they were very well behaved and took it all in their stride. I managed to catch up on some much needed grooming but still a few more to do. The birds have all got fur lined nests now !

The paddocks had a good strim and look really smart but we have got lots of repairs to do to the gates.

Four new additions on the chicken front witrh a trio of Cuckoo Marans and a Blue Belle hen so we had to erect a new pen and utilise an old kennel which, fortunately, had pop holes. No eggs yet but they have got to settle in.

Poor Sophie (Bonvivant Galadriel) owned by Lisa and Chris, was really ill this week with a pyometria and a tear in her stomach wall which caused her to have serious infection. Too ill to be operated on as her temperature was over 105.6 she had massive doses of antibiotic. Touch and go as to whether she would survive the op she was spayed and cleaned out. She is making a good recovery and hopefully will soon return to her normal naughty self.

A sad day Tuesday as it was Carols' fathers' funeral, a lovely service he would have thoroughly approved of.

Saturday I drove over to see the litter by Cliche to Czara, a lovely even litter just such a shame it was so hot and, having got lost going there, I was late and the pups were so tired I didn't get many pics of them other than asleep! Marion went with me to choose her puppy dog and will go to collect him next weekend.

Sunday I went to socialise the remaining puppies at a small companion show and Carol Hall went with me. She took Cerise, who is maturing nicely now, Psyche and Crusoe went too. Psyche was second in Prettiest bitch and won the Best Condition class. The puppies took it all in their stride as usual with Elle managing to escape and create havoc (as usual). They had lots of admirers and then crashed in the van whilst we had a picnic. A nice change to relax with the dogs in the sunshine.

Cello has his usual training night this week and a day course as well--looking forward to that but wish we had had more time to practice !

Dare I say I feel a bit better this weekend--need some more energy though. I think the sunshine helps after such a long winter.

Sorry for the delay in writing up my blog but it has been a busy couple of weeks with so much going on and not feeling brilliant due to some virus that I can't seem to shake off. On the 3rd lot of antibiotics now so fingers crossed I will be feeling a bit better soon.

The chickens have arrived and are already laying, 3 hens, 1 cockerel and some young pullets.

I travelled to Scotland for the NBSDC open show where Brizo was BOB Laekenois, Cher was BB and Celine RBB. Gerry and Steve had a lovely day with Kyp winning BD, BOB and BVet in Breed, winning the Noirnuage trophy which they had donated many years ago and had previously won with Peg. Scarlett, Brittanys' Groenendael bitch won her Junior class and was RBB.

SKC the next day and Cliche had the RDCC. Scarlett won her class again and Celine had a 3rd. Lexi won her class too, as did Dana.

It was an eventful weekend having to sleep in the van in a car park the first night due to the booked campsite not letting vans on the site! We found a very nice site saturday which wasn't officially open so we had it to ourselves. It was a late return home on Sunday night.

Monday and Tuesday were spent trying to finalise arrangements for Yvre to fly out to Estonia on Wednesday and having to make sure we had everything done on her Passport. An early drive to Gatwick where I met Tormi, Tiias' nephew. Yvre travelled really well with Grandpa Cello and walked past the roadworks, through the multi-storey carpark, I carried her up the elevators and then she trotted through the airport making friends along the way. She took it all in her stride and only when I had to put her in her crate and say goodbye did she start to cry. I made a swift exit and set off home-it isn't easy for me to say goodbye to my pups at the best of times.

Tiia sent me photos of her arrival at Riga and then of her exploring her beautiful new home. I think she will be very happy and hopefully will be an asset to the Xillys' kennel.

I spent Saturday at Carols and took Chic and Yazoo to play with Darcy which they thought was great fun. Sunday was another early start to travel to Bath Champ show with Barbara. It was a glorious day, dare I say too hot! unheard of for many years at Bath. Only a single ticket which went to Cliches' half sister Camylle. Cliche was BD and BOppSex with Sam RBD. Celine won OB.

Dana had a 1st and a 3rd. Not enough for a breeders class unfortunately. Antar was RBD Laekenois. We had a cuppa in the carpark and the dogs crashed out in the shade while we waited for it to cool down to travel home so back just before midnight. No shows for a while, missed a lot of entries--so many closing at once this time of year.

Great news from Erica that Arien, a Yorn daughter, has had 5 puppies to Tal'q, a Taeus son this weekend.

On the Agility front the dogs have been really busy with Ronnie going Grade 5 and Rusty winning her first Agility CC !!!!! Lots of other placings too for the Bonvivant dogs.

Last but not least news from abroad that Chiraze has taken the CAC and BOB at Namur !!!! Thankyou Claire and Gaston.

I have missed a few bits of news out but will catch up again another day.

Bonvivant Deja-Vu owned by Barbara Walker Smith has been out at Agility again and got 3 more Clear rounds in Agility, Jumping and Power and Speed.

Riley has been competing again and has had a 9th in Allsorts.

Ralph in Ireland won an Open, all grades Agility!! It is really nice to have so many dogs out there competing and enjoying themselves.

Jo and Grace have had a good weekend(see their respective blogs for updates) and by now David and Rusty will be on their way home from Prague and the World Champs.

I forgot to mention the Breeders Team class--this is the second time we have done it and I must say it does give a bit more flexibility being able to choose your team on the day. It was a shame that Chamonix was unable to be there as she was in full season or I could have made two teams of four up.

This team comprised of Crusoe,Vienna, Deepha and Sam and I think it worked quite well.

Both club shows are holding breeders team classes at the August Championship shows which should be a spectacle, I hope more people get interested in these as they are a showcase for the breeders. It should be quite good, I wonder how many teams I can make up as I think there will be quite a few puppies entering this time as well. What a shame we only have CC status for Malinois at the BSDA of GB show on the Sunday, not at Norbel on the Saturday.

Bonvivant des Iles Fidji (Cliche) gained his 3rd CC at Birmingham National Ch. show under judge Keith Baldwin.( Cliche was bred in France by Brigitte and Remy Dugue.) Many thanks to Jacqui Avery who handles him so well for me. His son Bonvivant Tete a Tete (Crusoe) was RDCC. Bonvivant Nonpareil with Stonedragon RBCC. Sami and Helen took the photos which is good as now I know I should go on a diet as well as how the dogs looked in the ring.

The weather has been cold, wet and windy for the past few days and Celine is not impressed, so to cheer her up I let her have the end of the yoghurt pot. She loves yoghurt and ended up wearing quite a bit of it as it was a large pot and she had to put her face in it to reach the bottom!

David and Russty are now in Prague with the UK team for the BSD World Champs so Best of Luck to you all. Competitions start Friday with a training session tomorrow. I will keep you informed as to how they get on.

Cello has been training again and is getting the hang of his retrieve. I wasn't feeling brilliant so messed up his heelwork--must try harder!

Speedy is in the doghouse as he has been "finding" wires that have been tucked away out of his grasp, but I don't think Jackie can be cross with him for long as he is such a handsome chap :))

The weather has been really lovely this past week--despite ending cold, wet and windy which is a bit of a shock.

It has been an opportunity to do a lot of jobs out and about in the garden. The dogs have been sunbathing in the paddocks and I have been trying to tidy up the flower beds. I have been tempted to make another blog linked to this one as I love photographing flowers wherever I go. With the hot sun the wallflowers and Aquilegia came out in bloom, and the clematis, which was covered in tight buds, looks glorious. Because I struggle to keep up with a veg plot I filled two large potato boxes with soil and have planted herbs in one and aim to put a few veggies in the other one. I did manage to get some runner beans in and planted some daisies, asters and an osteospermum on Ciels' grave, I shall take some photos once it gets established.
The puppies are growing as usual and getting into all sorts of mischief. Chic and Yvre went for their microchips and Rabies vaccination and were very good pups.

Photos of Beco (Brizo son) in Ireland and news that he is doing very well in training. It was the Laekenois pups First Birthday on the 1st May and I hope they all enjoyed themselves. Venus in Guernsey had a birthday cake and some new toys ! Vogue had a big juicy bone.

This week the GB Team are off to the World Championships in Czech GOOD LUCK ! to you all and especially to Dave with Rusty (Bonvivant Kallisto).

What a lovely week of sunshine we have had, and I have been attempting to do a bit of gardening--I made a couple of deep boxes up with herbs and have one waiting for a decision as to what to plant in there. Gaston and Claire brought me some lovely Thyme plants from Belgium which I have put against the side wall where they can get some reflected heat from the brickwork. I have asters and Bamboo as well, the latter, hopefully, will form a screen of foliage at the bottom of the field. The dogs have had a great time lopping about in the paddocks soaking up the rays too.

Yesterday was WELKS at one of my favourite venues-Malvern. It was very warm with a light breeze so consequently my face feels rather stretched and is red. I showed Frizzle for Sue in AVNSC PB and she had a 2nd and was very well behaved, and had lots of admirers(someone was heard to say "that is one of those wire haired Malinois!).

Briards, Tervueren and Groenendaels were before Malinois so the dogs were really quite tired by the time we got in the ring. Crusoe (B.Tete a Tete) was BD and BOB, Sam (B.Saumur) RBD, Dana (B.Sorciere) BB and Deepha was RBB. This was the first time we had entered the new Breeders class which is held after the main classes. It was exciting to be in the Pastoral Finals class, with about 12 other teams-I think this will give breeders much more incentive to compete in what is a very important competition. We didn't get placed but the dogs did a good presentation, but it was great to see the Hawksflight Tervueren team get 2nd.

In Tervueren B.Deja Vu (Deja) was 4th in OB and was also 4th in the Veteran Stakes class.

Ann Browns' Deepha has been doing quite a bit of winning lately at Open shows with her latest being Best AVNSC and Group 2 at Accrington & DCS. Deepha is Chers' sister and they will be 9 in May but, like good wine, they get even better as they get older.

The bottom pictures are of Chatter and Rodes this morning taken through the window, hence poor quality, but they always stop as soon as I open the back door, so I had to be sneaky!

I took the Tervueren pups up to Carols' yesterday and they had great fun playing in the paddock with Brittany. As you can see we still have a little flock of them but today Hilke, Dawn and their friend Delia, came to collect Anja. Hilke is hoping to do Obedience with her and Anja loves carrying toys and is a very friendly outgoing puppy. I am sure she will make lots of new friends and she starts her puppy class on Monday.

Csara, Bonvivant Ombrage who lives with Debbie and Paul at Belsharose, has had her puppies, 3 males and 6 females--these are by Cliche.

Venus, a Brizo daughter in Guernsey, has passed her Silver GCits and is a PAT dog.

What a busy week. With a bank holiday I took Elle up to Newark on the Friday for some socialisation. Lyn came to stay for a few days with her two Groenendaels Quest and Rowan. Sunday was Sheffield GSD with Obedience so I took the Malinois pups to sit and watch the world and his/her dog go by. They had plenty of childrens fingers poked through the crate door to chew on. I did a bit of Stay stewarding and Scent Decoy, I do find watching scentwork fascinating.

Kim and Gary brought their Tervueren puppies to show us, they are by Bruine, and I took a few photos. Really lovely outgoing pups with super bone, big coats and nice type.

This week has been busy with Claire and Gaston, Chirazes' breeders, coming from Belgium for two days. We took Cesar and Chiraze for a walk on the riverbank and they had a lovely time chasing each other. Today they left for Belgium and took Chiraze with them to be mated to their male, Strike de Domaine des Vauroux. He has sired a beautiful litter for them to Chiraze' sister Cleo and I think this combination will be very useful for future breeding here in the UK. We will collect Chiraze as soon as she has been mated. We were very sad to see her go but we know that they will care for her until we fetch her home to have her puppies, she is due in season very shortly and the males are already very interested in her !

6am and David and Candice set off for Shuttleworth so they would be in time to walk the courses and help in the rings.What a lovely sunny day it was and I took the 3 Tervueren pups, Brizo, Rodes,Crusoe and Chatter off for the day to Shuttleworth . I met lots of friends and dogs I hadn't seen for ages and took loads of action shots of them. I missed Dejas Clear Round unfortunately with Barbara but had a cuddle with Sam, and Indi had had his run earlier too. Yukon was there with Karin,and I met a Goldmali Cougar son Erik, Jo with Ronnie,Keisha,Pudsey and Zippy(I missed Kodys' run), Grace with Kiah,David and Candice with Rusty and Tia, Natalie with Reno, and Diane and Martin with Remys' brother Riley. His first competition and he did a really super Clear Round! It is lovely to see these dogs competing now and having such a great time!

The pups were obviously too young to go down by the rings but had a whale of a time on their collars and leads for the first time bouncing around and getting loads of attention by the caravans. There were planes overhead, the noise from the rings and gunfire all day and they didn't bat an eyelid. The big dogs had a wander round and were very well behaved meeting all their friends. Lisa and Chris brought a couple of dogs too. It was a really nice relaxed atmosphere and the competing dogs nearly all had rosettes with David and Rusty being awarded Best Malinois with a lovely trophy too. (they had been at Scunthorpe the day before and won the Grade 7 Agility).

The time sped by and before I knew it, after chatting with my friends, it was 7.30 and I had to make the trip home with a van load of sleeping dogs to get back and feed the rest of the mob.

Brizo and Termite are best of friends . A lovely sunny day so the dogs enjoyed their day out in the paddocks. David and Candice were up at Scunthorpe agility show and stopped over for the night on the way down to Shuttleworth. I am really looking forward to meeting up with puppies and owners Sunday and plan to take the pups for a bit of socialisation--and lead training--should be fun as they haven't been on their leads yet!!!!! Think I might take Brizo too as she is bombproof and is a good nanny to teach the pups.

On Sunday there was a motorhome show at Newark and I spotted just the job for Cougar! it even had his name on it!

Wednesday was nice,warm and sunny and the Tervueren pups had a great time getting into lots of mischief.

Monday I went up to Carols' and saw Darcy who is being very good--bit of a culture shock I think compared to Tervueren and Groenendael puppies. Darcy had just done her impression of an Andrex puppy only not so tidy and was in the doghouse. She has a great friend in Jack the Ragdoll cat and they had great fun chasing each other round the garden, a wonderful opportunity to get more photos.

My computer has had to be updated so I didn't have access to my photos hence the delay in updating the blog. Saturday was the BSDA club Open show at Markfield where Cher was Best Veteran in Show--last year Ciel was BVIS so it was nice to win the trophy again. Chamonix was BB and BOB, Cher RBB, Crusoe BD. BP was a Cougar daughter bred by Marianne and John at Goldmali. In Laekenois Bristle(B.Velocity) was BD and Brizo RBB and BVeteran. In Groenendael Scarlett(B.Uniquely Delark), owned by Brittany Winfrow, was RBB and they also won the Junior handling. Lucy with Dana (B.Sorciere) won Pre-Beginners Obedience.

Sunday was an open show, Retford, held at Newark where Cougar was BOB and Crusoe RBOB. Cougar was also Group 4 in the Pastoral group. In Groenendael Brittany was BOB with Scarlett and, in Tervueren, Bazil (Delark Witchcraft) was RBOB.

The puppies got to their destinations in Ireland safely today.

Steve showed us the work he has been doing with Teasel on sendaway, retrieves and heelwork. She is a very stylish worker and very fast!

Cello and I practised our heelwork, recalls and retrieves and then Steve was helping me with Sit and down stays. Cello is really enjoying his training and was very good on Tuesday night.

Speedy is worn out as he has spent most of the day playing with Teasel in the garden.

Sunday was the BCCof GB Ch show with Agility at Newark. Zippy, Eva, Zippo and Speedy met up for a photo shoot, which entailed mad handlers running up and down making strange noises--I don't know what they were doing :)). The pups all enjoyed their day out and, as usual, took it all in their stride. Jo ran Ronnie and Keisha and they worked really well with just a pole down.

Monday Karin came to collect Yukon who is joining Indi and Amy. Hopefully Yukon will go to some shows too---that litter are due out just in time for the Back to Back Champ shows so hopefully there will be a few puppies out this year.

I have a horrible cold so haven't been great company but Gerry and Steve have been cheering me up. They have brought the beautiful Teazel with them and she has been entertaining Speedy as he has lots of energy to use up.

Two Tervueren puppies make the big trip to Ireland tomorrow morning, one to the South to live with Udalls' brother Lincoln, and one to the North to live with Margaret and her family.

The club open show is at the weekend so lots of grooming to do in the next few days.

This is Termite who has come all the way from America to join us here at Bonvivant. She is a sweet natured bitch bred in Belgium at the Schranshoeve kennel and is by Brizos' brother. Termite has spent four years on a Ranch and has never been shown so whether she will take to it we can but see. Hopefully she will be useful in my breeding programme but, due to the paperwork still not arriving and her coming in season straight away, we will have to wait to breed from her on her next season. She seems very happy to be with all the Belgians and Brizo has taken her under her wing. Thankyou Lou Anne for sending her over to me.

A busy day Sunday as I am meeting Jo, Tony, Karen and Richard with Zippy, Eva and Zippo (formerly Hippo) up at Newark and Speedy is coming for the ride. Hopefully I will get some pictures of the four puppies together.

Gerry and Steve are arriving and staying for the week ! Really looking forward to it and hopefully we shall get some training done. I just hope the fine weather continues as it has been yet another glorious day, almost like Spring!

The weather today has been lovely and has meant that I could catch up on some serious grooming. The yard is now fur lined and I think I have more hair on my head than when I started! The puppies have had a busy day with the Tervueren puppies having a day in one of the paddocks. I dread to think how much grass and mud they may have consumed-but that is puppies for you.

This is Max, who went to live with Marie and her husband in Diss today. I hope they have a good nights sleep--although I should think he is very tired after his busy day and adventures.
Marie tells me that he discovered there were other dogs just like him in the mirror and the oven door!
This morning we had a visit from Samantha and her husband with two Hawksflight dogs.The nice thing about dogs is that you meet some really lovely people who love Belgians, and don't care whether they get mugged and covered in dog hair either !!!
The fresh air has got to all the dogs today and they are settled down for the night, Rodes and Speedy are asleep on the settee by the log fire and Brizo, Celine, Psyche and Termite are loyally up this end of the room by me--well they are curled up on the chairs asleep.
I shall update you tomorrow on Termite--when I can get a decent photo of her !!!!!

Here at last are some more puppy photos. I can't believe it has been a week since I last posted on here but it has been more hectic than usual (if that is possible), what with a family funeral and lots of visitors, dogs and people.

Femme unfortunately did not have any puppies this time, which was gutting, as Martin had taken her to Belgium in January. It is always a gamble and, having had quite a few failures in the past with matings abroad, seemed to be just our luck yet again. Saying that I have had some wonderful litters from foreign matings it is just how your luck runs I'm afraid.

Cello has been to his obedience classes and is doing really well, he is such a clever dog handicapped by yours truly, yet he still excels himself. He has been doing more retrieve and scent work with Distance Control thrown in for good measure.His tail never stops wagging the whole 2.5hrs class and he gets really impatient to get his turn at an exercise. It was a bonus last night as one member, David, had come 1st & 2nd in the YKC Advanced at Crufts and had brought chocolate cake. Cellos' eyes lit up as he does love a bit of cake now and again.

The puppies have had a good time out in the sunshine today, the Tervueren are very with you all the time, whereas the Malinois puppies would have been quite happy to have been left to their own devices for the rest of the afternoon, but, as we didn't need the field landscaping, we brought them back down to their kennel.

If there is anything that can take your mind off the down side of life it has to be puppies. At last a dry sunny day when the Tervueren pups could go up the field for the first time. Karin had come to choose her Malinois puppy and so a few of us went out to play. The pups thought it was great and watched as Lisa drove by in her van and an aeroplane zoomed overhead. Then they had a ball on a rope and bounced around having a great time. The Malinois puppies enjoyed mauling the visitors, they are 6weeks now--that has gone quickly, and they were trying to remove my jumper and trouser bottoms--little monsters!

As many of you know I was hoping for some miracle to happen and that Ciels' swollen leg was just a temporary blip, it wasn't to be. After recovering so well from major surgery at Christmas cancer reared its' head. Her illness was on my mind all through the Crufts weekend and today I had to make the final decision.
Ciel was a dog in a million, daughter of Cachet in my first Malinois litter and there was never any doubt that I would keep her. She was not the easiest of dogs, having a wicked sense of humour, which made showing her as a youngster an unpredictable nightmare; when you thought she would behave she didn't and vice versa. After a couple of years out of the showring she decided that showing was the only thing for her and did me proud even up to last year. Ciel had a RCC under Mme Heraly when we were all four varieties in the ring, and then went on to win numerous BOBs, and 2 further RCCs in 2006 and 2007, aged 9 and 10, crowning it all at the age of 11 with a CC at Richmond last year. Forever young, Ciel had BVeteran In Shows and showed and looked like a two year old.
I mated her three times, once to Ianys du Mas des Lavande in France (where this picture was taken) and twice in this country but, sadly, she never had puppies. Her sister became a Champion and producer in Australia and had a few litters.
Ciel was always feisty with the other bitches in the kennel but never dared to answer her mother back. She was devoted to me and even on her last morning came for a big fuss and watched me to the last.
I held her in my hands when she was born and in my arms as she died, and she will live forever in my heart. She was the brightest Rainbow in my sky and lies with her mother here at home.

Thanks to those people who kindly plied me with coffee as I didn't get chance to stop all day. It has to be one of the hardest shows to exhibit at and the most tiring for both dogs and people.

Some bad news today--Ciel has a swollen leg and, after having such a successful recovery from her operation, it seems she may not be with us much longer. Her leg did swell after the op but this was a common reaction due to the site of the op. It passed after a few days. She has been so active since and very sound that I was even considering which shows she could come to this year. I took her for a walk round this morning in the hope that the movement might reduce the swelling. Fingers crossed that this is just a blip.

This is Solo who has found himself homeless due to no fault of his own. His owner has been taken ill and, although his GSD companion has found a home, Solo needs one urgently. Solo is a mismarked Groenendael as you can see from his tan markings(probably the result of inter-variety mating) and I have seen this before. He is around 10 yrs old and was originally a BSDA Rescue dog and, sadly, now is one again. He doesn't like small dogs, so we guess cats are not a good idea either. He needs someone of his own who will take him for a potter about and then he can snooze his last few years away in front of the fire. Since he has been at the kennels he is certainly more lively and doesn't seem as stiff, but I don't think he had had much exercise of late due to his owners ill-health. I went to see him yesterday and he jumped up smiling for a big fuss. If you know anyone who might be suitable for him please contact BSDA Rescue (it is on the BSDA site or on Belsharose website), failing that contact me and I will give you more details of how to adopt this lovely old chap.

Another busy week--Christine sent me a photo of Asta with her new puppies, they had us all worried as she went almost a week over her due date but all was well. 2 dogs and 5 bitches and Asta is in her element.Here is Solli out on his walk looking very handsome--he will be at Crufts Saturday and Sunday as he is doing the Discover Dogs stand and then showing along with his brother Bristle and his sister Vogue. Unfortunately the classification was dreadful and the pups could only be entered in Open classes as they were too young for the Special Yearling class due to them being under 12months old at the show. Never mind, hopefully it will be better next year and we will have another crop of Laekenois out then (fingers crossed). Femme has come to stay for her impending litter, but isn't showing much yet with two weeks to go. She soon settled into our routine and is very well behaved. Saturday was Cellos' training day at Audreys' and he loved it, he is such a good dog and didn't put a paw wrong. His main handicap is his handler but at 7yrs old this was the career change he needed. We usually have 2.5 hr lessons and by lunchtime he was ready for a nap, batteries recharged he did really well in the afternoon until it got to about 4pm when he began to look a bit worried that we weren't going to go home. He had a couple of cups of coffee and a cup of tea (well dregs really from my cup) which gave him a buzz. He did heelwork, recalls,retrieve, scent and his first attempt at Distance Control. He soon got the gist of that and I think he charmed most of the ladies there. They all seemed surprised how friendly he was even when he was doing his MaliClacks for the treats! He was quite full of cheese and chicken and slept all the way home. Sunday was another day for Speedy to go to Newark and there was a shooting show on so lots of noise which echoed round the showground--it didn't seem to bother him at all. He was more interested in raiding the trade stand for some puppy food again!!! He had travelled in the top bunk of the LandRover this time and was very good and quiet. He has had his first experience of a kennel today and is currently crashed out upside down indoors as it must have been all the fresh air which wore him out. Hopefully I shall have some exciting news of a new arrival to Bonvivant in a couple of days :))
